'Twas on a Monday morning (1985)

Words by David Appleton, John Lloyd and Tom Anderson to the tune of 'Twas on a Monday morning - Donald Swann

'Twas on a Monday morning
That Rod came round to call.
Somebody'd buggered up my VDU
No picture there at all.
Rod plugged it in and it lit up
With a message on display
That NUNET had gone down again -
It does that twice a day.

Oh it all makes work for the NUMAC staff to do

'Twas on a Tuesday morning
That Rod came round again.
The Westrex error lights were on;
I fought with them in vain.
Rod pushed the lid down firmly
And pressed the RESET switch,
But MTS was down that day -
Another software glitch.

Oh it all makes work for the NUMAC staff to do

'Twas on a Wednesday morning
When in my room Rod walks.
He had a brand new RML
In a great big cardboard box.
He took it out and plugged it in
And left me feeling proud.
But there were twenty users in the queue
And I wept out aloud.

Oh it all makes work for the NUMAC staff to do

'Twas on a Thursday morning
Rod came to 922.
The VCR would make no sound
There was nothing I could do.
Rod juggled with the cables
And swapped them to and fro,
Which got the video working
But the class then had to go.

Oh it all makes work for the NUMAC staff to do

'Twas on a Friday morning
Rod came to 924.
The plotter wasn't working
"Its in the room next door!"

'Twas on a Friday morning
Rod came to 923.
The plotter wasn't working
Well it's built by -
Yes! HP!
Rod put the pens into their slots
And filled the paper tray
But the power cable burned right through.
I gave up in dismay.

Oh it all makes work for the NUMAC staff to do

On Saturday and Sunday
Users aren't seen at all
So 'twas a Monday morning
That Rod came round to call.
